The manufacturing defect; colourfastness

White shirt plus blue jeans is a good fit but not inside your washing machine because of the expected dye bleeding. Detergents are always held responsible for dye bleeding and that is not entirely true. Improper dying process can cause colour migration from your fabrics and this dyeing defect happens in manufacturing process itself and this invisible reason makes detergents as victims.
Colour fastness is the ability of a material or dye to maintain its colour without fading or washing away. Mordant is a dye fixing agent is employed to create a chemical bond between a dye and fabric to secure colour fastness. Alum, mineral salts and caustic soda are straightforward examples of mordant. This aspect is responsible for attaching colour with the fabric, if properly done even after multiple washes the colour of the cloth will remain stable.
The main production errors causing the dye bleeding are:
• Invalid dyeing techniques or inferior quality dye were used during manufacturing.
• Inappropriate usage of dye to a type of fabric.
• Unhelpful dye planning, etc.
Due to the faulty dying process the imperfections such as fading, Crocking and colour bleeding can be seen. Fading is the disappearance of colour through exposure to multiple factors for instance, sunlight or cleaning agents. A Crocking is the shifting of colour from one fabric to another when in contact. Bleeding is the loss of colour from a dyed fabric when rinsed in a liquid or colour is dispensed into a liquid medium and transfer to another fabric.
